Roy Tran

Beyond the Title is the leadership platform founded by Roy Tran, a Toronto-based global people and culture executive (CPO/CHRO) and workforce infrastructure architect. The argument he has built his career around is straightforward: most organizations have accumulated their people infrastructure rather than designed it. Over twenty years he has done the opposite, building the systems, frameworks, and organizational architecture that hold when the leader who built them has moved on.

He has held senior People and Culture leadership across a Crown Corporation of 17,000 employees, a national retail operation of 90,000, and a 35,000-person municipal workforce through the COVID-19 pandemic, for which he earned the City Manager’s Award in 2021. His most recent mandate took him across five countries in Asia-Pacific, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Indonesia, and India, where the challenge was building a unified HR infrastructure across five distinct labor environments and cultures, in four languages, simultaneously.

Beyond the Title is his platform for leaders building organizations that outlast them. Two bodies of work live under it: The Human Code, on the interior life of leadership in the age of intelligent machines, and The Human Premium, on the economics of remaining human as intelligence becomes abundant. Both came from the same realization: the most valuable thing a leader brings to their work is not their credentials. It is what their actual life has built in them.

One of the Vietnamese Boat People, he grew up in Toronto with a factory-floor father and a mother who put herself through night school to build a career in the Canadian federal government. He has spent his career, and much of his life, working across North America and Asia-Pacific.
